Looking after our environment is one of the best ways we can help keep our planet healthy and happy. This World Environment Day, why not try one (or all!) of these simple family-friendly activities?
1. Plant a Mini Wild Garden
You don't need a huge garden to create a wildlife-friendly space. If you're short on outdoor space, simply reuse a plastic bottle from the recycling. Cut it in half, add some compost and seeds, give it a good watering, and watch it grow.
Wildflowers are brilliant for attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, helping nature thrive right on your doorstep.
2. Build a Bug Hotel
Bugs need safe places to rest too! Collect a few old tin cans, wash them out, and place them somewhere sheltered in your garden or on a balcony.
Fill them with sticks, leaves, bark, pine cones, and other natural materials to create cosy hiding spots for insects. Not only is it a fun craft activity, but it's also a great way to learn about the tiny creatures that play a big role in our ecosystems.
3. Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt
Create a checklist of natural treasures to find – a feather, a round stone, a flower, a leaf, or something yellow – then head outdoors to see what you can discover.
Whether you're exploring a park, woodland, beach, or your own garden, it's a fantastic way to encourage curiosity about the natural world. Bonus points if your little ones use their finds to create some nature-inspired artwork afterwards!
4. Pick Up Litter Along the Way
Sometimes the simplest actions can have the biggest impact. Next time you're walking to school, heading to the shops, or enjoying a family stroll, take a bag and some gloves with you and collect any litter you spot.
It's an easy way to help your local environment while showing children that small acts of kindness towards the planet really do make a difference.
5. Read About the World Around Us
Books are a wonderful way to help children understand and connect with nature, wildlife, and conservation.
That's why we created our My Precious Planet activity book series. We wanted to create something special – books that aren't just fun but also help children understand the environmental challenges facing our world today. Whether it's protecting endangered animals or caring for our oceans, My Precious Planet shows little ones that they can make a real difference, starting right at home or in their own back gardens.
Packed with fascinating facts, activities, puzzles, and crafts, the series encourages children to learn about the planet in a positive and empowering way. Who knows – you might even have the next David Attenborough in your family!
Supporting Conservation Through Our Partnership with ZSL
World Environment Day is also the perfect opportunity to celebrate our partnership with ZSL (Zoological Society of London), the international conservation charity working to restore wildlife and create a world where nature can thrive.
Together, we've created a collection of ZSL x MBI products, including books, plush toys, notebooks, and baby teethers that help families connect with the natural world through play and learning.
What makes this collaboration especially meaningful is that every purchase from the ZSL x MBI range helps support ZSL's conservation work. So, when families choose a ZSL x MBI product, they're not only bringing home something fun and educational – they're also helping to protect wildlife, habitats, and biodiversity around the world.
